ReplyDeleteIn my point of view, reading skills are apparently important. We can see that people who are good at these skills tend to do better at school or university than those who are not. Therefore, I would like to point out that taking advanced reading course benefits me in two ways.
The first advantage is that I can summarize better. I found it was not easy to write a good summary but I have learned a lot from the course how to summarize well. For example, I learned how to find the main point of the article, and how to write it briefly.
Another advantage is that I can read faster by mastering skimming and scanning. These help me when I have lots of information to read in a limited amount of time, so I can save time not to read unnecessary details. Moreover, I can also apply these skills to use in my routine such as using dictionary, reading newspaper, and so on.
I strongly believe that advanced reading course will be very useful to me in the future. Thus, I will continuously keep practicing those skills I mentioned above.

ReplyDeleteThe 01355321 Advance English Reading class using the Academic Encounters and teacher’s slide show as teaching materials to teach the students about the reading technique and the book’s content. They are the important things to learn ,as they are useful in both everyday life and education. However ,while I studying, I found both good and bad point in this subject.
The good point of this subject is contents in the Academic Encounters. I found that the text’s content is critically useful in students’ everyday life and it’s also interesting and easy to read. For example, the Stress and Illness article tell us about how stress could damaged our health, while the Coping with Stress teach us many methods to deal with stress in our everyday life. Each article also explain things clearly ,and provides exercise which could help us to understand the main idea.
However, there is a bad point in this subject. It is the reading techniques that we have to learn, but it’s not included in the book, it’s in teacher’s slide instead. We have to note it in our notebook. This make the learning process harder than it should be. We have to concentrate on writing while we’re studying and that cause disturbance in the learning process.
To conclude, the book which used as learning material is good, it provides the clear and useful information, but it is lack of reading techniques which could cause the disturbance in learning process.

ReplyDeleteActually, I was the one who had never liked the Reading classes at all because of the content which is so hard to understand and the result of the examination that keeps dragging my grades down. But I have to admit that this subject REALLY DOES affects my reading skill in the positive way. I found myself able to read and extract the main idea better than before. I used to be such a slow reader and it took me like forever to find the main part of the articles, but for the past few years, I was improving. I can say that I read faster and able to conclude the context better, seriously. The best thing is it is not only improving my reading skill, but also my writing skill. It is easier for me to use the correct form of grammar because I’ve learnt and remembered from those articles in Reading class. I have found the new vocabulary through the context which would help me a lot in many ways. Moreover, the context makes me remember what type of words and Idioms I should use. I also found myself enjoy the class lately because of the Coping with stress article that is interesting and very useful. I might not a good English reader or an intelligent student in class, but I think this subject really means a lot to me. It keeps improving my skills and I’ll make sure that I will do the best I can in order to make me a better reader.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Reading skill is very important for me. This course gives me many lessons. I can adapt some knowledge to use in my daily life and in another course such as writing. There are three main knowledge that I always use. The first one is paraphrasing technique. I have learned how to write the sentences in a new word and how well the paraphrased sentences should be. Now, I can paraphrase the sentences better. The second knowledge that I get from this course is organization pattern. I mostly use it in my writing work. I have to understand each pattern, so this reading course can teach me very well. Finally, I learn how to read efficiently and quickly. Moreover, I can catch the main point of texts and realized the purpose that the author wants to say. I think my reading skill is really better than the past. In short, reading course has been given me much useful knowledge and I also think that I will absolutely get more and more knowledge from this course.

For me, this class is not my favorite class at all because last year when I was first introduced to this subject, I had found nothing interesting. But later I think it is great to have this class in our course otherwise I will not be able to read WELL in English. Anyway, it is not that bad even though you, an instructor, have given me 2 assignments already, but that what I have expected. Honestly, I do not like to do homework at all. I prefer a nice weekend without any homework. So far, this class seems to be the most pressing subject for me, more work than writing course. Finally I hope you will not kill us all by giving tons of homework.

Reading is one of the important skills of every language, especially in English. No one, even me, can deny that he or she has never read any books before because reading has a lot influence on humans’ lives. I have learnt reading classes almost 3 years in the university and I think I can read faster and correctly more than the past. Now I ‘m learning the reading book called “Academic Encounters”. Although I just came to the university about two days and first attended the reading class, I can enhance my knowledge. For my first day of reading class, I studied about stress. I know how stress can effect on human’s health both mental and physical strength. Moreover, I know that there are several ways to cope with stress well. Also, I had learned how to summarize the story in the direct way. Finally, even though I learned the reading techniques not as much as my friends did, I think I will know it all soon.

In my opinion, reading is very important for daily life. It is not only a way to get information but also a way to get knowledge. So, reading skill is an important skill that everyone should has. For me, reading is not my favourite subject. I am not good at it. I do not like to read very long passages. But this course can help me to read well because it provides me useful skills. There are many skills that I have learnt and these are two of all. The first skill is scanning skill. This skill is very useful when I have a very long passage to read. I can get a specific word or important information easily. Another skill is paraphrasing skill. It helps me rewrite a sentence in a different word, know how to use synonyms, and understand a meaning of the sentence before paraphrasing. Moreover, I have read passages about stress and ways to handle it in this course which is very interesting and useful. Finally, I think this course improves both my reading and writing skills and gives me much knowledge.

It is necessary for everyone to have a good reading skill, especially students. Of course, I’m the one of them. In this course, we use “Academic Encounters: Human Behavior “as a text book which has more details and difficulties in techniques than the previous one. However, I’ve got more advantages after taking advanced reading courses. First, I’m able to read faster by using the technique of skimming and scanning which are the most important tips of reading. I used to waste my time whenever I read the whole article. That was not good when I did an examination. Thus, I tried to read more and more to improve my skill. As a result, it makes me know how to paraphrase and summarize better. Also, I’m able to restructure the sentence, express an idea in my own words and improve my writing skill too. (Even it is not much as the others) Those techniques also play a role in my daily life, such as, reading magazines, articles or books.

ReplyDeleteReading is the worst skill for me. I don't like to read the texts or books at all. However, it is impossible to avoid this class. I have to concentrate more in this course. For the past two weeks, I think that the tecniques is like the same as I had studied in the previous Reading courses. Anyway, there is one tecnique I like. That is highlighting. It make me better understand the text and know where is the core part of the paragraph. In addition, I like the story about the stress. It is quite interesting for me. I want to learn more about the stress to cope with it in my own life. Although there are many homeworks and class works and I do not prefer to do it, I cannot deny that it is the best way to practice and improve my reading skill or even writing skill as well. By the way, I will try my best in this courses for my own sake. I have a faith that there is nothing we can't do unless we give up.

I’m Kuncharika Thammasuntorn. Now I’m studying in Advanced English Reading class with you, Ajarn Primjai. From June 6th until now, it’s about 2 weeks ago, but I think that it’s so long time like a semester. However, I realize that I have known a new thing about “stress”.
ReplyDeleteIn 2 weeks ago, our class has just learned about “stress”. I think our lesson is harmonious with my feeling when I study in this term. I’m possessed by the stress, so I think that every chapter are so useful to adapt to my whole life. Especially “Coping with Stress”, I can use all techniques which state in this passage when facing with stressful situations. Thus, when I’m so anxious, I should change my feeling to be a challenge. It’s the best way to cope with this event for me.
Now even if reading class isn’t the new thing in my life, I’m always worried about it. I’m not good at reading, but I promise you to do my best in this class and others.

ReplyDeleteI'm quite not like to learn this subject but I love to read very much, especially short story and tale. Is it weird? haha. I think reading skill is very vital for everyone. It is one of the best ways to improve our English. When you read, you can get many things, for example, learn new vocabularies, know how to write grammatically and smoothly, and even get enormous amount of information.
ReplyDeleteDuring these two weeks, I gain many useful reading strategies from you such as highlighting, guessing meaning of unknown words, skimming, scanning, and summarizing. They makes me better in reading.
Although I am not good at this subject and always get a bad grade, I do try more and more to become a good reader! I believe that 'reading helps a person be successful in life.'

Although there are many assignments in this Reading class, I still like the way the teacher teach us especially her tone of voice. I feel like I am listening to the tale when she is teaching. I am not a reader but the reading skills that I have learnt from this class such as skimming and scanning help me a lot. They make my reading a lot easier. I like the story in chapter1, The Influence of mind Over body, and really hope that the rest of the chapter will be more interest than this one.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, advanced reading is quite hard because there are a lot of technical words that I don’t know and the passage is quite long for me. However, I still think that this course is so important and very useful to me. First of all, this course has taught reading strategies, so it helps me to improve my reading skill. I can read faster and can summarize the story that I read better. Another benefit is that reading helps me to build up my vocabulary. In this course, I have learned many words I don’t know. The last benefit is that reading helps me to improve my writing skill. As you can see, in this course, I have to read and write a lot. Therefore, it is definitely sure that after ending this course, both of my reading and writing skills will be better.

For my vision about this subject, I think Reading subject is one of important subject. Reading is one of the methods to study in the new generation. How it is important or involve? Definitely, in the new generation, they can’t read anything for a long time or use more time to read. Everything changes quickly, not even the world’s change but also the challenges especially to seek the opportunity for jobs. They need to know the ways to make you read faster and faster and then fastest. To make your own opportunity, you must do anything quick and this subject can be the basic of that purpose. In fact, I don’t like to read English books because I’m lazy to translate it. But sometimes if I had an interesting book such as War History or Entertainments, it will change my lazy to be enthusiastic. So about 2 weeks ago, I had to learn about some new techniques to improve my reading skill to be better such as Highlighting and the knowledge about the stress. There are so interesting and make this subject to be interest too. Last, I hope to improve my reading skill to be better from this book and my kind teacher. Since I have studied advanced reading course, I can know more about many techniques to apply in my daily life. I was very astonished for this course. It is vary for many skills such as writing, structure, and so on. Thus, I can use reading skills for adapting in other course as well. In addition to those skills, I realize that I can summarize the main idea when I read an article from various source. I can guess the meaning of word by finding both of synonym and antonym. I also use scanning and skimming to read thought the text. Moreover, I have learned about the stress in previous week. In my opinion, It is very simple for everyone to know including me because life always tough. If we know how to cope with the stress, we will overcome the stress. From those reasons, I was very glad that I can know every detail of the text. To be honest, I do enjoy learning those brilliant skills. There are a lot of unexpected techniques, but sometimes I lost my focus. All in all, this course is extremely essential. I believe that I will always improve myself and be a good reader.

ReplyDeleteFor me, reading study skills are obviously important. It seems to be nothing if I read fluently but do not understand it. So, I realized that taking advance reading course give me many advantages. Firstly, Skimming and scanning help me a lot to find the answers or main point in a rush time by skipping uninteresting details.
Another advantage is that the more I read, the more vocabularies I know. I learned a lot of unknown words which help me to have more efficiency to use vocabularies in other skills such as writing, translation, so on. However, I am a kind of person who doesn’t like to read a thick textbook but when I learned the process to read I feel that it more easily to understand what I read. Moreover, the lesson in each chapter gives me very useful knowledge such as the first chapter which is contains the information about how to cope stress as we had learned. And I can truly apply in my daily life.
To summarize, learning advance reading skill benefits me in many ways and the most important thing is that I can apply those techniques in my daily life even in the future.

According to studying Advance English Reading in the last two weeks, I found that it harder than the last year. Furthermore, the materials are serious and the contents of reading and always about physical and mild, so that's why it is quite hard. Anyway, reading is important because the contents in the text are very useful for our life and having skill is good for us to learn English and work in the future also. All I hope on this subject is to understand when I see any unseen journal by using techniques which I have learnt from reading and I also hope that I can be better at reading skill.

The stress is the simple thing that people have to face in daily life. Stress affects almost everyone, from the highly pressureed executive to the student. The stress also cause a variety of physical disorders such as headaches or stomach ulcers. However, when i study this lesson, I can learned what is stress and how to controlled it.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I learned to take up a hobby to cope with the stress. This is one of the good way to use when you're very serious. A hobby such as painting the picture or playing video games can help you feel relaxed.
Second, I can learned to take care of the health when I have to face with the stress. Because stress can cause many health problems such as stomach ulcers. So, Iearned to eat on time although I'm not hungry. Normally, when people are stressful, they will not hungry because the brian will order the body to alert all the time. So, you will feel like you're not hungry but in fact your stomach is digesting and it can cause the stomach ulcers.
Finally, I learned to think positive. Thinking positive is the best way to cope with the stress. Because if you're think in negative way, it can't help you feel better on the other hand you will feel much more serious. For example, when you do the homework and you think that it's very difficult, you will feel like you don't want to do it anymore but if youb try to think that there's nothing that you can't do, you will success not only your homework but also everything in your life.
In conclusion, I can learned many things from this lesson. I can learned the stress can cause many health problems to our body. However, the stress in daily life life can be controlled by following the instructions above. If you can cope with the stress, you will be able to control the source of problems and enjoy your healthy life.
